Velloma G. Davis, 80, passed away in her home on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016. She was born on March 12, 1936 at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. She is preceded in death by her parents Vellow and Loma Garrison and two sisters, Mozelle Lambert and Avalon Duncan.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert; daughter Debra Dahlene Davis; two sisters and a brother, Dahline Hilton, Jo Harris and Lane Garrison; brother and sister-in-law William and Patricia Davis and many nieces and nephews.
Velloma worked for Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation and was the director of the before and after-school programs at Fairfield Elementary School for 25 years, before retiring in 2004. She loved all the children in the program and kept in touch with many of them after she retired. She received numerous prestigious awards and was loved by the children, as many called her their second mom. She will always be remembered for her great love of family, dear friends, travel and animals.
A funeral service will be held at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, 4889 Princess Anne Rd., Virginia Beach at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016, followed by interment at Rosewood Memorial Park on Witchduck Road. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17.
