Reverend Percy G. Hughes Jr., 87, went home to be with our Savior on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016. He was the son of the late Percy G. Hughes Sr. and Annie Hughes Staples. He was preceded in death by his brother, Milton Hughes, and his sister, Mary Ann Holt.
He was loved and will be missed and remembered by his precious wife of 69 years, Mary Frances; son, Percy G. Hughes III and wife Dale; daughter, Valerie Fransen and husband Mike; daughter, Linda Tibbetts; and beloved sister, Ellen Staples O’Meara and husband Bob. He dearly loved his eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Percy served in the U.S. Air Force for 24 years, retiring in 1971.
He joined Rock Church and served faithfully for many years. He was honored to have been taught by Bishops John and Anne Gimenez. Percy established Living Waters Rock Church in Emporia, Va., serving as pastor for 20 years.
He had a passion for sports and loved golf and the friendships that it brought. Percy cherished his mighty prayer breakfast warriors. They found love for one another and a deeper love for Christ. He and Mary enjoyed the ministry and fellowship at Calvary Assembly of God Church.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, 2016 at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. A funeral will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, with burial to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
