Bernice Johnson Wiley, 99, kind heart and feistiness will be missed

Bernice Johnson Wiley of Virginia Beach passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 23, 2016. She was 99.

She was born in Griffin, Georgia on Oct. 7, 1916 to the late Roscoe Trammel Johnson and Bamah Johnson Parsons. Bernice was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Dr. William Byrd Wiley. She is survived by two daughters: Ann Clark and her husband Ben and (Boo) Betty Jean Payne and her husband John; three grandchildren: William B. Clark and his wife Beth; Missy Clark and her husband Dave; Matthew Payne and his wife Natalie; five great grandchildren: Bennett and Renn Clark; Quinn, Wiley and McKenna Hurt.

Bernice loved working in her yard, golfing, playing bridge, traveling and her Bible study group. Her kind heart, graceful guidance, funny wit and feistiness will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A celebration of her life will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, her 100th birthday, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 2002 Laskin Rd., Virginia Beach.
