John “Wesley” Sims, Sr., 71, of Virginia Beach, Va., passed away on Aug. 9, 2016, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Wesley started his career with Ajax Marble & Stone, then owned his own company, Colonial Marble and Stone. He worked as a general contractor for many years, working with Custom Stone Company and Superior Marble. He was proud of his masonry work displayed at the Chrysler Museum and Universal Studios in Florida.

He enjoyed fishing, golfing, boating, cooking and working with his tools.

Born in Orlando, Fla., he was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Lorene Sims; his brothers, Grady D. Sims and Richard Eugene Sims; and his sister, Anne Marie Jeffers.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 50 years, Jeanette Sims; his children, John W. Sims Jr., and Janet S. Sims, of Chesapeake, Va.; his sister, Lilian Zigler (Ronald); his brother, Kenneth R. Sims (Joan); his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Hospice of Tidewater for their compassionate care.

Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Wesley’s life, officiated by Dr. Sherman Davis and the Rev. Bob Jones, at 10 a.m. Friday Aug. 12, 2016, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 1264 Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach, Va. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery, 2020 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, Va.

After the service friends and family are welcome to join together at 1464 N. Woodhouse Road, Virginia Beach, Va.
