Hampton Roads Transit needs mechanics and bus operators.
The agency is hosting a job fair tomorrow at 509 E. 18th St. in Norfolk from 1o a.m. to 2 p.m. On-the-spot interviews and screenings will be conducted. Fleet mechanic positions are available in Hampton and Norfolk, according to the Hampton Roads Transit website.
“If you have service experience with heavy vehicles, we want you!” the transit agency’s website said.
A spokesperson for HRT did not respond to a request for comment before deadline.
A $2,000 sign-on bonus is available to newly hired mechanics; a $550 bonus is offered to operator candidates with a commercial driver’s license and a $250 bonus for operators without a commercial driver’s license, according to the website. The site also lists other available positions, such as technology-project manager and a maintenance supervisor.
Mechanics working full-time for HRT could earn an hourly wage of $17.82, according to the listing. Applicants must have five years of heavy-duty shop experience within the past 10 years and proficiency in the diagnosis and repair of all HRT vehicles. They must also be able to read/comprehend written and electronic service information.
Bus-operator applicants would earn an hourly wage of $9 during training, and $14.06 as a full-time operator. Applicants must be proficient in computer systems and software applications. Additional information can be found here.
