Calvin L. Mercer Jr., 66, passed away on Aug. 4, 2016, after a long, brave battle with Multiple Myeloma and Parkinson’s Disease.
Born in Jersey City, N.J., he was the son of the late Calvin and Jennie Mercer. He served in the U.S. Navy and retired as an environmental protection specialist with the civil service.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gertrude M. Mercer; son, Bobby Mercer; sister, Paula Biviano; and numerous extended family.
His wife and son are deeply grateful for the excellent care and kindness Calvin received from the many nurses, doctors other and staff at 2 South Oncology at Virginia Beach General Hospital.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 1485 Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach, Va. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
