Kevin Flynn, 67, of Virginia Beach, Va., passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 27, 2016, at home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born June 29, 1949, in Bayonne, N.J., and moved to Navesink, N.J. at the age of 4. He was the fourth of eight children born to the late John Joseph Flynn and Geraldine Flynn.
After graduating from high school, Kevin enlisted into the U.S. Navy and spent 24 years as a submarine shipmate. He was a Vietnam War veteran and retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9).
Meanwhile, Kevin had an overwhelming desire to further his education. In 1981, with honors, Kevin earned his associate of science degree from Mohegan Community College in Norwich, Conn. In 1995 he earned a bachelor of arts degree, with a specialization in computer information systems, with honors, St. Leo University.
After retiring from active duty, Kevin continued to support the Navy as a government contractor. He was considered a technical and subject matter expert in many areas related to ship and submarine operations. He loved his job and the ability to provide support to those in need.
Kevin met Leonora, the love of his life, when a good friend introduced them. in 1991. A year later they were married. From that moment they were inseparable and made many wonderful memories together.
Kevin loved anything computer related, traveling, entertaining friends and family, mentoring and spending time with his loved ones. He also enjoyed singing karaoke, photography and whitewater rafting. He as a diehard New England Patriots fan and was proud of being certified at The Guinness Factory in Dublin, Ireland, as a master pourer.
Kevin is survived by his wife of 24 years, Leonora Flynn; his five children, Laura Kullman (Mike), Michael Logan (Lisa), Kevin Flynn, Sharon Flynn and Patrick McLemore (Whitney); and 10 grandchildren, Alyssa, Sean, Amanda, Serena, Savannah, Tabitha, Alivia, Layla, Isabella and Rylan.
The viewing will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2016, at H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Ave., Norfolk Va. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016 at Christ and St. Luke’s Church, 560 W. Olney Road, Norfolk Va.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
