Gerald D. Beasley Jr., 89, Army veteran managed Thrifty Car Rental fleet in Tidewater area

Gerald D. Beasley Jr., 89, formerly of Norfolk, Va., died August 2, 2016, in North Carolina.

Jerry was a graduate of Granby High School and attended Virginia Tech University. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, a member of the German Club of Virginia Tech and a longtime member of the Norfolk FOPA.

Jerry was a fixture in the auto business in Tidewater from the 1950s to the 2000s. He spent nearly 30 years managing the Thrifty Car Rental fleet.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy S. Beasley; and his sister, Roberta B. Nesbit.

Jerry is survived by a daughter, Leigh B. Gillis (John) of Suffolk, Va; grandson, Jordan Willard (Kristin) of Lynchburg, Va; great-grandsons, Carter and Caleb; nephews, Stuart Nesbit and David Gurganus of Virginia Beach, Va., and Michael Scott of Baltimore, Md.; and nieces, Bonnie Brown and Barbara Barrett of Norfolk, Va., Susan Welsh of Leesburg, Va., and Ruth Morton of England.

A memorial service, led by the Rev. Mary Newbern-Williams, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, Va.
