LV “Rocky” Karns Jr., 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 27, 2016.

He was born June 12, 1926, in Richmond, Va., to the late LV Sr. and Lucille Karns.

Rocky served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Merchant Marines and was a longtime member of the Aragona Moose Lodge # 1198 and several other fraternal organizations. He dedicated 32 years of his life to the Norfolk, Va., Fire Department, retiring in 1988 as a battalion chief. He was a stalwart of the Norfolk Fire Retirees and enjoyed the camaraderie and dining at K & W Cafeteria while telling tall tales with those with whom he retired.

Rocky was preceded in death by his loving wife Margaret; his brother; James Karns; his daughter, Elizabeth Hogge; and his son, Billy Whitehurst.

Left to cherish his memory are his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and his buddy, “Max.”

Rocky’s life will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., where visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday Aug. 1.
