Binford Leigh Snead, 87, passed away July 15, 2016.

He was born  April 7, 1929, in Blairs, Va., to the late Curtis and Helen Snead.

After graduating from Hargrave Military Academy,  Mr. Snead served his country in the U.S. Army. He then continued a career as a captain and commercial and naval ship docking pilot. He was a Mason who also was active in the Scottish Rite and Shriners.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary H. Snead; and his sister, Joan S. Yates.

Mr. Snead is survived by his daughter, Linda S. Wheeler; grandson, Nicholas E. Wheeler; brother, Jon Snead (Sherrye) of Colleyville, Texas; niece, Kathy Weinberg (Andrew); nephews, Jon W. Snead Jr. of Grapevine, Texas, and Fred Yates Jr.; great-niece, Mandy Conner of Oviedo, Fla.; and cousin, Shirley Stump of Winston-Salem, N.C.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Rosewood Memorial Park, 631 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, Va.
