Martha Evelyn Hamblen, 96, passed away on July 9, 2016.
She was born Aug. 12, 1919, in DeKalb County, Tenn., to the late George and Martha Jane Wilson.
She worked for the Department of Defense as a military pay clerk and retired from FAADCLANT.
Mrs. Hamblen was a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star past worthy matron Norview Chapter 131, Order of the Amaranth, Norfolk Scottish Rite Ladies, and Ladies Oriental Shrine. She was an avid traveler with NCT and Smart Cats.
Evelyn was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, George P. Hamblen; brothers, John and Minos Wilson; and sister, Peggy Love.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Valerie Gary of Grovetown, Ga., and Bradford Hamblen of Sonora, Ky.; great-grandchildren, Victoria, Alexandria, Aidrian, Zechariah, Avory, and AnaSophia; sister, Mary Miller of Pascagoula, Miss.; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, 3600 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, Va., with burial to follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Eastern Star Rites will be furnished by Norview Chapter 131, OES.
