Robert Leo Becker, 90, WW II vet and former Pittsburgh police sergeant

Robert “Bob” Leo Becker, 90, of Chesapeake, Va., formerly of Pittsburgh, Pa., passed away in the presence of family on Sunday, July 3, 2016, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Assisted Living.

Bob was a parishioner at the Catholic Church of Saint Mark in Virginia Beach.

Bob was born, raised, lived and worked in Pittsburgh until moving to Virginia in 2005. He was a graduate of Oliver High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corp at the end of World War II. After returning from military service, Bob continued his public service as a sergeant with the Pittsburgh Police Department until retiring in 1982. Bob and Helen would continue to give back to the city they loved by delivering meals-on-wheels to the homebound and working as volunteers at Allegheny General Hospital.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Helen Elizabeth (Mikeska) Becker in 2009.

He is survived by his three sons, Christopher T. Becker (Karen) of Gibsonia, Pa., Jerry L. Becker (Patrice) of Chesapeake, Va., and Matthew E. Becker (Sandi) of Pleasanton, Calif.; and six grandchildren, Mary, Stephanie, Christian, David, Rachel and Scott.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at the Catholic Church of Saint Mark in Virginia Beach, with Father Anthony Mpungu officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Employee Benefit Fund for the nurses and staff who took such great care of Bob during his final years. Make checks payable to Our Lady of Perpetual Help and mail to 4560 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA, 23462.
