Judy K. Frye Jewell, of Virginia Beach, Va., passed away on July 4, 2016.
She moved to Virginia Beach 36 years ago and made it home. A passionate volunteer, she was on the board of directors, development committee, and served as a chairperson for the “ZooToDo” fundraiser for the Virginia Zoo. She also served on the board of directors of the Virginia Musical Theater. She was the director of telecommunications at Dominion Enterprises for 19 years and, most recently, was the site coordinator for NEXCOM for the past seven years.
Judy was diagnosed with heart disease in 2007 and afterwards created a Facebook page called “My Heart Beats” that has helped thousands of women across the oceans deal with heart disease. She was a strong and inspirational woman who always tried to have a smile on her face when she was hurting the most. She was a loving, caring mom, grandmother and sister, and a beautiful and supportive friend. She will be missed dearly.
She is survived by her son, Brian Jewell (Cheri); two grandchildren, Cody and Shelby; sister Jennifer Patterson (Dave); niece Amanda; and her cat, Charlie.
A memorial visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 1485 Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach, Va.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either The Virginia Zoo (www.Virginiazoo.org) or Go Red for Women (www.goredforwomen.org), as these were charities Judy was passionate about.
