Gladys Gildersleeve Partin Becker, 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday morning, July 2, 2016.

She was born in Williamston, N.C., and lived most of her life in Norfolk and Chesapeake, Va., before moving to Eaton Rapids, Mich., in 1992.

Gladys was a 1947 graduate of Maury High School. An interest in fashion and fabric led her to work at JC Penny, retiring as a sales associate after nearly 30 years of service.

She enjoyed traveling, painting, gardening and sewing. Most special to her was getting to spend time with family and friends as she traveled home to Virginia each year. She was a longstanding member of Rock Church in Virginia Beach.

She was predeceased by her parents, Walter D. Jernigan and Estelle Suggs; her sister, Janice Hodges; and her brother, James A. Suggs, Jr. She was previously married and preceded in death by Thomas Gildersleeve, Sr. and was widowed by Henry L. Partin.

Gladys is survived by her husband, Harold D. Becker, of Eaton Rapids, Mich.; sons, Thomas Gildersleeve Jr. (Patricia), Michael Gildersleeve (Deborah) of Virginia Beach, Va.; daughters, Cindy Jackson (David) of Hampton, Va., and Sharon Kuhlman (Don) of Chesapeake, Va.; two step-daughters, Claudia Siemenski (John) of Varina-Suquay, N.C., and Linda Howard (Joey) of Austin, Texas; 11 grandchildren, Christopher Gildersleeve, Rachel Greene, Adam Becker, Nathan Gildersleeve, Sarah Strassheim, Jordaen Gildersleeve, Paul Riner, Kenneth Siemenski, John Siemenski Jr., Heather Smith, Jessica, Sharla, and Michelle; 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews across the Southeast.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 524 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, Va.  Interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
