James Wesley Dingus, 93, passed away on July 4, 2016, in his home with his daughter and caregiver by his side.

Born in Coeburn, Va., he was a past member of Kempsville United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach. He retired from the Norfolk Southern Railroad after 30 years of service, working his way from slinging a sledge hammer to terminal supervisor of the Norfolk Division. He was a well-loved supervisor who earned the respect of his co-workers. He was an avid fisherman, gardener and card player.

Mr. Dingus was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Edith A. Dingus.

He is survived by his daughter, Dana D. Striffler; his son-in-law, Bruce; his brother, Barney Dingus (Mary) of Coeburn, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a devoted husband, father and friend who will be missed dearly.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2016, at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601. N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, Va. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2016, at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
