VIRGINIA BEACH – Sugar Maple Drive will close for four weeks beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday for the Holland Road Connection Project, the Virginia Department of Transportation announced.
The closure will allow crews to install storm drains and utilities in preparation for the new roadway on Holland Road. Holland Road lanes will not be affected by the closure. Local traffic can use Chestwood Drive to access the Sugar Maple Drive neighborhoods and Holland Road.
The Holland Road project has been underway since spring 2015 and is scheduled for completion in October 2017. The 2.5-mile project will expand the two-lane road into a four-lane divided roadway that connects Dam Neck Road to Nimmo Parkway.
As construction advances from Dam Neck Road to Nimmo Parkway, traffic will be shifted as sections of temporary and new pavement are completed. Lane closures will be restricted to off-peak hours between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and crews will work from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting.
VDOT advised motorists to drive with caution in the construction area. A reduced 35-mph speed limit is in effect throughout the work zone.
The highway department said access to adjacent neighborhoods and businesses will remain throughout the life of the project. To learn more, visit http://www.virginiadot.org/hollandroad.
