Mary E. Shuffler, peacefully passed into her Father’s arms surrounded by her loving family on Monday, June 27, 2016. Born on May 19, 1922, in Pawtucket, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Howard R. and Mary T. Fuller.
A graduate of Pawtucket East High School, she received an Associate’s Degree in Business from Johnson and Wales Business School. For 28 years, Mary served the Virginia Beach Public School System as head secretary at Trantwood Elementary School and touched many lives with her compassion, kindness and smile. She retired in 1995. Retirement never slowed Mary down as she continued her dedication to her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Doreen Hartman, and her husband, Brian, and their sons, Joshua and Zachary of Oley, Pa.; son, Jim, and his wife, Kendall, daughters, Ashleigh and Charlotte, and son, Austan, of Virginia Beach; and many cherished extended family and friends.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staffs of First Colonial Inn, Heartland Hospice Care and Windermere Rehabilitation Center for their sensitive and compassionate care.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 18, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel. A Mass of the resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, at the Church of the Holy Family. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. A reception will follow.
