Lucille Jeanette Bishop, 87, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 25, 2016. She was born the daughter of John and Lillian Borgwald in Mt. Vernon, N.Y.
She graduated from Perryville High School (Maryland) and attended Davis and Elkins College. Before marriage, she worked as a librarian at Enoch Pratt Library in Baltimore, Md.
She met her loving husband, William G. Bishop Jr., in the 10th grade and was married for 65 years. Her life revolved around her husband, three sons and her church, Bayside Baptist. Often in the company of her devoted friend, Mrs. William C. (Nancy) Smith, she served her church in countless ways, especially through the Women’s Missionary Union and as church coordinator for Meals on Wheels. Her charitable activities extended beyond Bayside Baptist to volunteering at Special Mailing, among other charities. She was one of the ‘church ladies’ who do so much for others without seeking recognition.
She was preceded in death by her eldest son, William (Tom).
She is survived by her husband; two sons, John (Mary) and Robert (Katie); four grandchildren, Jim, Ruth, Bill and Stephen; her only sister, Joan (John) Haithcock; niece, Kathy (Chip) Louthan; and nephew, John (Kathy) Haithcock.
The family wishes to add special thanks to Lucille and Bill’s church family, steadfast neighbors, and the ladies (Karen Witt, Doris Torrance, Rhonda Simmons and Jena Archer) who devoted themselves to her home care.
We invite friends to a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, at Bayside Baptist Church, 1920 Pleasure House Road, Virginia Beach. There will be a reception following the service.
