Kenneth Eugene Beatty, 68, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016. He was born on January 16, 1948, in Indiana, Pa., to Helen and the late Bill Beatty.

He served in the U.S. Navy for four years and was stationed at Oceana, where he worked on jets. He was employed by VEPCO/Dominion/Virginia Natural Gas as a corrosion supervisor. He later worked at Wild Birds Unlimited.

Survivors include his devoted, loving wife of 37 years, Janice (Collins) Beatty; daughter, Shannon Weinstein (Dan) of Ft. Myers, Fla.; mother, Helen Beatty of Ames, N.Y.; sister, Sandy Malcolm (Dennis) of Ames, N.Y.; brother, Bill Beatty (Paula) of Edmonds, Wash.; mother-in-law, Stella Collins (who resided with Ken and Janice); three sisters-in-law, Jo Anne York and Beverly Harrison of Chesapeake and Patti Killen (Jamie) of Nags Head, N.C.; two nephews, Brandon Harrison of Chesapeake and Joey Killen (fiancée Malerie Rubnitz) of Gates, N.C.; two precious granddaughters, Shelby and Cassidy Weinstein, who he adored; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a member of Charity United Methodist Church, where he was known as ‘Mr. Ken’ to the many children he loved and who loved him so much.

Per Ken’s request, his organs were donated through Life Net.

A celebration of Ken’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, at Charity United Methodist Church, 4080 Charity Neck Road, Virginia Beach. Visitation will follow the service in the church social hall.

In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation in Ken’s name to the West Neck Educators Club, 2705 Steinbeck Court, Virginia Beach, VA 23456. This organization provides scholarships for Kellam High School seniors.
