Irene A. Galiotos, 70, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 23, 2016, surrounded by her family. Irene was born in Argos, Greece, but had lived in Virginia Beach most of her life after immigrating with her husband to raise a family and embark on entrepreneurial and real estate ventures.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 40 years, Anthony.
Left to cherish her memory are her three sons and their families, Steve and Patricia Galiotos of New York, N.Y., Tasos and Jennifer Galiotos of Virginia Beach and Paul and Bobbie Galiotos of Chesapeake. She was the loving Yiayia to A.J., Olivia, Logan, Anthony, Peter, Maria and Sophia Galiotos. She is also survived by her sister, Vasiliki Ntasi of Greece; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Irene was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. She was a member and had previously served as vice-president of the Hellenic Woman’s Club. She had a sharp mind and was independent and forward thinking. She enjoyed reading and treasured spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren. She had fun playing the lottery and was scratching tickets and laughing in the hospital with her grandchildren just a few days before her untimely passing. She was loved and will be greatly missed.
Her family would like to thank the physicians and nurses at the Norfolk General Heart Hospital who provided care and support.
A Trisagion service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road. A funeral service will be conducted at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 11 a.m. Monday June 27, with the Rev. Father George Bessinas and the Rev. Father Constantine P. Rogakis officiating.
