Samuel Bruce ‘Sam’ Snider Sr., 90, of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 21, 2016. He was born on January 12, 1926, to the late Rufus and late Lillie Seagraves Snider in Jerusalem, N.C.

After high school, he served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following his service, he worked diligently as a plumber serving the Hampton Roads Area. In his free time, he pursued extensive hobbies, including beekeeping, fishing and gardening. He specialized in growing tomatoes, green beans, squash and zucchini, just to name a few of his crops. Sam was a member of Tidewater Primitive Baptist Church of Norfolk.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his brother, Rufus; and sister, Clara.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Vera; the two would have celebrated 64 years of matrimony on August 9, 2016. He is also survived by his daughter, Christine Snider; son, Bruce Snider, and his wife, Diana; granddaughter, Amy Clements, and her husband, Brian; grandson, Sam Snider, and his wife, Sarah; grandson, Shawn Snider; granddaughter, Karen Williams, and her husband, Tim; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Ethel Jean, Virginia and Doris; brothers, Robert and Harold; and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at Altmeyer Funeral Home-Southside Chapel, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach. Visitation will continue from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, June 24, at the funeral home with a funeral service at 1 p.m. Final rest will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake, following the services.
