Mary Ashbee Pittman, 86, passed away at her daughter’s home Friday, June 17, 2016.
She was born in Norfolk to Charlie and Nellie Ashbee; the youngest of five children. She was proud to be a graduate of Maury High School. She was a beautiful soul with a heart of gold who was deeply loved and adored by her family and friends.
Her death was preceded by her beloved husband, Carl Pittman; parents, Charlie and Nellie Ashbee; sisters, Nellie Jarvis and Thelma Talley; and brothers, Robert and Samuel Ashbee.
Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her daughters, Deborah Pittman and Mary Ann Kaplan; son-in-law, Shep Kaplan; and grandson, Zachary Kaplan.
Mary found the most joy in her family. Her love was infinite and unconditional. Her southern sweetness, selflessness and warmth endeared her to everyone whose lives she touched. Her passing has left a deep sadness and a hole in our hearts that will slowly be filled with wonderful memories. We loved her dearly and completely. Heaven has a new angel.
The family will receive loved ones from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
