Lou Bunch, 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 7, 2016. Mrs. Bunch, born April 3, 1921, in Maxwelton, W.Va., was the daughter of the late Willis Shawver and Ida Garreft Shawver. She was the last remaining of their four children.

She met Clarence Lee ‘C.L.’ Bunch of Covington, and they married in March 21, 1945. With her husband C.L. being based in Norfolk with Piedmont Airlines, they moved to Virginia Beach in 1952.

Some of the activities she enjoyed through the years included: learning to fly and soloing a J-3 Cub during a time when it was unusual for a young woman to do so, being an active member and treasurer for Francis Asbury United Methodist Church, a longtime bowling league member and taking cross country trips on the back of her husband’s motorcycle. She also took great pleasure in spending time and preparing elaborate meals for her grandchildren.

A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was preceded in death by C.L. and a son, Dirk.

Her surviving family members include son, Rory Bunch, and his wife, Laura; and three grandchildren, Taylor, Kendall and Brandon.

The family would like to thank the staff of The Waterford for the caring and compassionate attention they gave ‘Grammy’ during her residence there.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at Princess Anne Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. A reception is planned for family and friends after the service.

Memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad.
